About the Show

Tickets start at $20!

With her debut full-length album Love and Guts, Rhode Island singer-songwriter Kara McKee emerges as a powerful new voice in contemporary folk/Americana, pairing timeless songwriting with modern indie-folk production reminiscent of Gillian Welch, Jason Isbell, and Lori McKenna.

Written in the aftermath of her grandmother’s death at 96, Love and Guts is a record about grief, resilience, and the courage to remain open-hearted. The album opens with “Goodbye,” a song about the words left unsaid at the edge of loss, and closes with an iPhone recording of McKee’s grandmother offering a simple reminder: “It’s a beautiful day.” In between, McKee explores memory and the fear of who we become without the people who shaped us — ultimately arriving at the album’s central idea: love and guts is how we keep going.

A Rhode Island native, McKee left a 15-year corporate career to pursue music full time. She quickly gained momentum, earning a grant from Club Passim’s Iguana Music Fund, releasing her debut EP, and making her national television debut with a performance on The Voice. She recorded Love and Guts in Nashville, co-producing the album with Thorleifur Davidsson and Nathaniel Smith, whose credits include Watchhouse, Sierra Ferrell, and Kacey Musgraves.
